MORGANS CAPITAL MANAGEMENT
Our Germany focus connects business fundamentals with industry structures and global end markets.
01 / MCM
German companies participate in diverse international value chains. Research considers competitive positioning, innovation, investment needs and the economic importance of service and specialization.
Automation, energy use and technological change are examined at the level of individual business models.

International demand can create growth opportunities and dependencies. We examine geographic revenue exposure, the cost base and the role of exchange rates.
Company reports and industry information help distinguish cyclical influences from structural changes.

The German perspective is complemented by European competitors, economic conditions and global peers, supporting a considered view of business quality and valuation.
In depth
A specialized position may rest on technical performance, process knowledge, service capabilities or long-standing customer relationships. Describing a business as a niche provider is not sufficient for analysis. The relevant questions are the specific benefit it offers and the effort involved for customers in changing suppliers.
Examining specialization therefore connects product characteristics with economic outcomes. Can development expenditure support many applications? Does an initial delivery generate recurring revenue? Is the competitive advantage tied to individual products or to a broader ability to solve customer problems?
In industrial business models, orders, recognized revenue and cash flow can occur at quite different times. A large backlog alone says little about when work will be completed, which costs will arise or how quickly payments will be received. Changes in the project mix can also affect interpretation.
A grounded assessment therefore follows the path from customer order to cash receipt. Contract duration, work performed in advance, customer deposits and possible delivery changes all matter. Revenue development can then be connected with working capital and the economic quality of the business.
A German corporate domicile does not establish where demand originates or costs arise. Sales, production and procurement may be spread across different regions. These layers should be examined separately because they can respond differently to the same economic development.
A region's revenue share also describes only part of the relationship. Local production can connect certain costs with local sales, while imported components introduce other dependencies. Precise attribution helps interpret currencies, trading conditions and changes in demand in relation to the actual business model.
Technological change and evolving customer requirements lead to decisions about products, locations and investment. The economic question is not simply how much a company spends, but which problem the expenditure addresses and how it affects the company's future ability to act.
A comparison can distinguish maintaining established capabilities from developing new business areas. Both may have a rationale, but their uncertainties and time horizons differ. Connecting strategy, capital requirements and potential economic benefits provides a clearer framework than an announcement of a transformation program alone.

Capacity utilisation matters most when it can be connected to shipment volumes, labour hours and the cost of keeping a plant open.

The customer’s address is a poor guide to currency exposure. Start with the invoice currency and the date on which cash changes hands.
